By now many of you have heard about the Charles Philips “scandal”.
Over the last few days I talked to a few folks who have known Charles for 10-15 years or longer, certainly prior to his moving to Oracle. Friend is probably a stretch of a term since none of us see him but once every couple of years (and the things I say about Oracle on this blog certainly don’t endear me to him) but in our world of instant “friends” on LinkedIn and Twitter, we could call him that. And none had heard about his 9 year relationship. So, yes there was a tinge of disappointment in each of the voices I spoke to.
But, having said that, I personally am angry to see this on billboards and gossip sites. His personal life is not that scandalous especially if many of us had not even heard about it. He deserves our disapproval, but not all this media circus. So, yes, speaking for a friend – I say “back off”. Plenty of challenges that deserve more of our attention.
