I have never seen Larry so animated as he was mocking clouds during a Churchill Club interview
Between what Google and Yahoo and Microsoft and salesforce and Amazon and NetSuite and Zoho and Intacct and appirio (and yes, even Sun he recently acquired) and what so many others are doing in the cloud , we have seen innovation and improvements in:
- data center design
- thermodynamics
- virtualization
- SLA transparency
- automation of application upgrades and change management
- multi-tenant architectures and related efficiencies in application management
- how technology gets licensed and provisioned – units, duration etc.
- web analytics
- systems integration services as software
- and much more
Which of these innovations has Oracle led the industry with?
I have called Larry a Medici in the past. He is a benefactor of much innovation and good things in life. But not in the cloud.
During the talk he also bragged "We are the largest employer of MIT and Caltech engineers in the world. We are the largest employer of Stanford and Harvard, CMU mathematicians in the world. We are overwhelmingly dominated by engineering at Oracle"
Sounds like they need a kick in their cloud, er fog.
