I see my friends James Governor and Ray Wang recognized in the "Analyst of the year" surveys by the IIAR. Well deserved. But it did beg the question - what happens next year when Ray is no longer with Forrester? Will he be significantly less influential in the market?
And it prompted questions like why is the New York Times and someone like David Pogue not recognized in the consumer category? ZDNet and Larry Dignan in some enterprise categories? Firms like Equaterra in the services category? Each in own way is pretty influential in specific market sectors.
The world has moved on - as I wrote there are often a thousand points of influence in a complex technology decision - but seems like AR folks want to cling to a narrow (and shrinking) definition of market influencers.
