Seems like every time Apple announces a new iPhone release, it has to shield AT&T – from its spotty 3G coverage to heart-stopping international roaming charges to games it plays with third party apps like Skype,
At today’s announcement of the 3GS, AT&T was noticeably absent from Apple’s list of global carriers when it came to MMS and tethering support. It led Sam Diaz at ZDNet to call it the iPhone’s “boat anchor”. Bob Warfield hopes to start a consumer revolt over lack of tethering support.
But it is up to Apple to play the heavy – as I wrote here it is no longer the junior partner. I hope they are not being as patient behind the scenes as they appear to be overtly.
