Argues a spokesman for CTIA, the wireless industry’s trade association to a suggestion that wireless bills show precisely what customers are paying per minute - unit prices that we get to see in grocery stores, gas pumps etc.
The NY Times reports that Utility Consumers’ Action Network, based in San Diego, analyzed the phone bills of 134 consumers and suggested that they paid far more for each call than they realized.
And here is the real kick in the teeth. In the US we pay for both incoming and outgoing minutes. And another 20 to 25% in fees and taxes. So actually we are paying far, far more than we even realize.
Also, how much would that change in billing systems cost to show that unit price? A few pennies per invoice? Happily pay them – a bargain compared to the new fees telcos are tacking on all the time.
So, no – CTIA. Most consumers would not find that objectionable.
