IndyCar racing came to town this weekend. 1.8 miles of downtown St. Petersburg became the course. The 14 turns slow the drivers down, but the tall buildings make the event even more ear-splitting. Half a mile away we walked to an Tibet exhibit at the Museum of Fine Arts. None of the din from the race as you walked through exhibits from its 2,000+ year history of Buddhism in Tibet.
I was mentally contrasting it to events in China. China is itself an IndyCar race. Plans to build 97 airports in next decade. Let that sink in for a minute. Then you have the massive Olympics. In a hurry and lots and lots of energy and noise. But, for all these achievements, cannot manage a peaceful Tibet. It will be a tumultuous next few months. A shame.
