Ambient Intimacy is a high-falutin term folks have been using about the Twitter community. But intimacy with who and about what?
Dennis Howlett, himself a big Twitter fan, does a nice job summarizing questions the Enterprise Irregulars are bringing up around the value of Twitter and similar social networks.
As he quotes me "I am still searching for a network which has more buyer reps …most of
those are old school membership organizations and the old boy
network…no technology needed or allowed in them…"
Even professional networks like LinkedIn are mostly tech vendor centric - great for business development as fellow EI, Chris Selland, raves about but lacking in contacts outside of the tech vertical.
But it's like going to a conference with 95% vendor reps and a sprinkling of CIOs. Blame buyers for being Luddites when it comes to social networks, but we should be investing time drawing them in not just chattering, er, Twittering among ourselves.
