Continuing the Consumer/Enterprise debate Stowe Boyd jumps in "The basic orientation of 'consumer' software puts the individual first, at the center of the world." Whereas with enterprise software "The users rights and capabilities are tied to membership, not to individual identity."
Of course - that's what consumer technologies are about. That's all they are about - the individual. Whereas enterprise technologies have to worry about individuals and groups and the enterprise and inter-enterprise. And things such as controls and compliance.
But as they say "Don't mess with a man's money or his mail". Enterprise technologies take care of delivering a man's email and cutting his paycheck. Faithfully and carefully.
So, don't tell me enterprise technologies don't care about individuals. But the love will always be tough love. Like Telly's.
