You have to a bit wary when page 19 of the print copy of Consulting Magazine (see on-line version here) names Janet Hoffman of Accenture as one of its top 25 Consultants of the Year, and page 63 is a full page Accenture ad congratulating her! What a coincidence to have them both in the same issue -)
While each of the 25 candidates has impressive resumes, I do wonder how many of them are really "consultants" any more. They are managing large practices and more focused on major proposals, acquisitions, staff management.
It is a dilemma I keep facing in my own small consulting firm. Should I expand the firm and reduce the consulting time I would have with clients? Every quarter, I get temptations to expand, but I really enjoy client work - and must admit, do not enjoy administration and HR issues quite as much.
Guess I would be lucky to break the top 25 ,000? Even if I paid for a full page ad -)
