So I left the US last week after a month of struggles to find 3 oz deodorant to comply with the TSA 3-1-1 rule. And I get to the EU to find it allows 100 ml. That's 3.4 oz! Boy, that 0.4 extra would have made life so much easier.
On the way back, my wife ask me to comparison shop an Estee Lauder product. And sure enough at a duty free shop I find this "travel exclusive". Nice deal. The sales lady asks me if she should vacuum seal it and I gladly accept. I put it in my computer bag and forget about it.
Silly me. The Refinisher in the package is a 100 ml bottle. Transiting through New York JFK I get the third degree from TSA. It is more than 3 oz. Does not matter it is vacuum sealed. Does not matter you bought it at an airport duty free in Europe. He finally lets me go.
I arrive home to find the box of 3 oz Gillette deodorants I had mail ordered. Yup, the large quantity I am embarrassed to disclose. 3 oz means I am safe in US and EU. Something tells me, though, I may find something different on my trip to India next week -)
