Mark Crofton is picking up the reins from Jeff Nolan at SAP around blogger relations. Mark has a really interesting background. Growing up in Florida, he probably saw the magic technology can deliver - as in Disney and NASA. He spent a couple of years at McKinsey - so is pretty analytical. He spent a couple of years selling in Argentina. He spent another couple at a VC firm. He has a BA in International Relations in addition to an MBA. In other words, a very broad perspective on technology - and its value to business and society.
But I don't just write this to praise his credentials. I truly appreciated his commenting yesterday which ends with " Stay with us, please." He need not have.
I heard from another regular reader that my post sounded like I was pouting and just wanted to take my ball and leave. Au contraire - it is actually more responsive to other comments that I am a dog with the proverbial bone. I have beaten up on SAP and Oracle (and their partners) for as long as this blog has been going. For all their posturing, I see in my day job what their customers (yes, including Disney) really think of their value proposition.
So, I hope SAP gives Mark the ammunition to make me write about it with delight. In fact, I hope my future posts on SAP qualify for my innovation blog New Florence, New Renaissance. As of today, neither SAP nor Oracle have qualified for much mention on that blog. And for too many critical posts on this one.
