Time names me - and you and you - Person of the Year. Nice kickoff to the holidays.
2 years ago I would have dismissed it as pandering to its consumer base by MSM. But I have learned from the power of this blog the influence individuals still have in a world of corporate brands.
So, it is time - again - to thank the folks at Google, Technorati, SixApart, Wordpress, YouTube who have given so many of us affordable platforms to express ourselves and make new friends around the world.
It is time to recognize the power of social networks that Dr. Andrew McAfee, Ross Mayfield, Jeff Nolan, Rod Boothby and Chris Selland keep harping about. Not surprisingly, they drive debate in our group of Enterprise Irregulars.
And time to recognize that we may think we are one in a million. Except that there are thousands of those millions around the world. The mobile and the $ 100 laptop will bring even more of us into these networks.
Finally, time to also recognize that human interaction is dwarfed by the traffic that comes from sensors, satellites, devices. In some enterprises that now accounts for 80 to 90% of all the information flow.
So, let's enjoy Time's pat on the back. But to me this is less about me - in the last couple of years, I have found myself far more aware of what is happening outside of my little world. That's worth a group hug, some high fives - and a few fiery debates on our blogs -)
