Madonna has had highly publicized issues with her recent adoption of a kid from Malawi.
But while people are ready to say it's because of Africa's bureaucracy, think again. A friend of mine took 2 years adopting from an Eastern European country, and gave up on trying to adopt a second one - and he blames his US advisers for the latter. I have known others with problems adopting in China and India.
There are just too many middlemen in the international adoption process. Immigration officials, social workers, adoption agencies, attorneys. These are well intentioned folks who are there to weed out child molesters, pimps - but they often just get in the way of anxious, loving parents and kids who long for a better life.
There is just too much plaque in the international adoption process. Hopefully Madonna's experience will highlight the need for angioplasty on the process - irrespective of the parent and child geographies.
