Yes, Virginia we have changed - just a tad.
Beloit College runs each year a list of "the cultural touchstones that have shaped the lives of today’s first-year students."
It just released the list for the class of 2010. These teenagers grew up with one Germany and no Soviet Union.
Here are some of their technology "touchtones" :
-"Google" has always been a verb.
- Madden has always been a game, not a Superbowl-winning coach.
- They have rarely mailed anything using a stamp.
- LoJack transmitters have always been finding lost cars.
- They have always been able to watch wars and revolutions live on television.
- They grew up with virtual pets to feed, water, and play games with, lest they die.
- Bar codes have always been on everything, from library cards and snail mail to retail items.
