In time for Mother's Day, I read this BusinessWeek article on Patricia Woertz, recently appointed CEO of Archer Daniels Midland. That makes her one of the most powerful ladies in Corporate America.
In her previous job at Chevron (where she ran an even bigger business unit), one of her bosses had advised her not to have kids for the sake of her career and said "Get yourself fixed - and put it on your expense report"
She ended up having 3 kids...and her career has not done too shabbily...thanks, Mom for ignoring that advice. And still doing so well in the macho oil industry.
