Skype announced free calls to N. American telephones through the end of the year. Om thinks it is actually to sabotage competing VoIP player Vonage's planned IPO. But I plan to re-evaluate my "unlimited" plan offered byVerizon at $ 35 a month. Cablevision announced an unlimited calling plan anywhere in the world for $ 19.95 a month in its NE customer base. Nice. Verizon is still charging 75c a minute to Canada under some plans!
Update: Reader Naveen points out the Cablevision plan is for blocks of 500 minutes at $19.95 - not unlimited. My mistake. Still at 4c a minute it does better than many Verizon rates for many countries. Some other calling card plans and Skype are at 2c a minute for calls to some countries.
