Sad story here for someone who helped build quite a software empire in Long Island, of all places. CA was an incredibly difficult company to buy from, partner with, analyze. It was the place people called "where technologies went to die". But love them or hate them, Charles Wang and Sanjay Kumar understood economics of software maintenance 15 years ago and went on an acquisition spree to mine maintenance annuities. Sanjay also led the company into a bold move around subscription based revenues way ahead of the industry.
He was well on his way to putting his own mark on the company. Not sure what posssessed him to do what he is pleading guilty for, but in my few dealings with him I did find touches of this attitude ""My mom always told me you meet the same people on the way up as you
meet on the way down. And you will rise faster and fall slower if you
are nice to people." A shame.
