Plex saves Christmas from a failed SAP implementation. In this season of cheer, it’s all in good humor.
But it had me thinking, take any of the countless other Run Better ads SAP has run and you could poke holes and make fun. What SAP runs is usually back office stuff, often only at HQ. And when you ask about the effort and economics of the SAP project, you realize the run is actually pretty sluggish.
Specific to Santa, UPS with its 34 million package pickups on a busy holiday day and its ORION package delivery Big Data, Amazon with its massive holiday provisioning, even GE which showcases sleighs every year with hydrophobic coatings, slides made from composites, OLED lighting, 3D printed ornaments from its product catalog have far more credibility than SAP does.
What Plex is doing with Santa, other competitors can do to most other SAP customer references in that campaign. Now imagine if late night comedians started a series poking holes on each of the ads.
Time to retire the Run Better campaign and replace with something more modest and defensible.
