Couple of weeks ago we had a young visitor who lost his keys playing basketball. He had important documents in his car he needed the next morning, so at midnight we called AAA. I managed his expectations – the tow truck would most likely manage to open the car but we would have to go to the dealer the next morning to get a replacement key.
AAA sent a mobile locksmith that blew my socks off. He was equipped to cut duplicate keys for hundreds of makes and models. 15 minutes and $ 100 later (AAA subsidized another $ 100 as part of our membership) we had a duplicate key, and it reminded me of so many other services that have gone mobile.
There are vehicles which collect the dirt from shampooing your carpets, we have palm tree trimmers with mobile shredders that turn large branches and pods into mulch, mobile ATMs, mobile dry cleaning pick up. There are so many services which now come to us that the poor ice cream truck’s jingle sounds like just another smartphone ringtone.
So, why I am not surprised to see us export the concept in the form of mobile cupcakes and tacos to Paris?
