"Dumb as a stump"

I read last week in USA Today, Harrison Ford so describe his Star Wars character, Han Solo - the one that launched his monster film career.

Dumb maybe, but also beloved.

Reading about the brouhaha about Psystar last week, I had the same reaction. But that is the nature of industry disruptors. They may not have the same cachet as innovators - but they take equally large risks to help us consumers.

Our industry has a proud history of alternative products starting with Amdahl plug-compatibles.  Third party software maintenance, replacement printer inks, SaaS alternatives to on-premise software and on and on. No reason the Mac cannot have close enough alternatives.

May the force be with disruptors, er rebels - a vital part of our industry.

Hmmm. I used to like Harrison Ford (Han Solo? Rick Deckard? Indiana Jones - well, from the first movie, anyway...). But the more he speaks, the more I dislike him.

Han Solo is far from dumb, and is clearly much smarter than Luke. Harrison, on the other hand, signed on for a fourth Indie film, when the evidence of the sequels so far - and George Lucas's recent track record on franchise exploitation - should have told even a moron to stay well away. Early gossip says Indie and Glass Jaw (or is it "skull"?) is a world-class turkey.
