Did I use up one of my nine lives?

See this New York Times article about the chaos in the air last December 29 over Texas. The graphic on left shows the storms and the 130 planes American Airlines diverted that day - the second most after 9/11/2001 since 1995.

Now read this post I wrote about our experience that day trying to come home from Dallas. I was trying to optimize our travel through the delays with all the technology in my hands - weather.com, Flightaware.com, GPS - and made a poor decision.

If I had known the airlines were using just a paper legal pad to optimize at their end - "Lacking any automated system for keeping track of all those diverted planes, Mr. Dillman and his colleagues furiously scribbled down details of where they had gone, how long they had sat there, and whether pilots had enough time left on their daily work limits to keep flying when the weather cleared" - I would have just given up for the day.

I need to apologize to my son again and say another prayer.
