Saturday Night Fever
Scoble
confirms he is leaving Microsoft. And does it by being generous to Microsoft.
Never met the man but have always found this blogging pioneer extremely
responsive to his readers. Must have taken him a huge amount of effort given
his following. I once emailed him about a blogging ethics question and he sent
back his cell phone and offered to discuss. So, I guess it is not surprising to
see how blog world, not just his readers, reacted to the news on what should
have been a slow Saturday night.
It was my night out with my 12 year old son. I wanted to go see the new movie Cars. He did
not say it but at his age it is not cool to seen in an animated movie with your
old man. So we settled on his favorite restaurant and a trip to the book store
which has WI-FI. He settled in to his manga comics, me on the laptop.
9.45 PM EST -I read Tom
Foremski's post on Scoble (Bloglines reported it as filed 9.27 pm).
9.54 I file my post
11:00 Leave bookstore, head home
11.30 At home, see Techmeme
has just reported it (It only lists 2 blogs - Tom's and mine - at this point)
11.45 Om files his
version. Like a good journalist he has tried to verify the rumor.
12.07 Sunday AM - Jason
files.
12.09 Matthew
files
1.00 While I sleep, Typepad shows just about every hit on my blog
is about Scoble (click below to see larger version of extract from Typepad stats)
2:15 Scoble
confirms
10:00 Techmeme -
shows since it first ran it at 11.30 last night there are at least 50 blogs reporting it, and we are still just in Sunday morning!
In the mean time, Paul Kedrosky is busy trolling through SEC's EDGAR and
finds this gem. Nothing to do with Scoble, but he would be proud at the investigative skills of a fellow blogger.
What can I say - just another exciting Saturday night in blog world! More exciting then the World Cup...

Vinnie, it's a shame you can't get Google AdWord bonus points or something for being one of the first to blog about this! Tom broke the story, but you're one of the first guys beyond him I saw with comments...14.9 million blogs later, you and I are but footnotes in the tech.meme epaper trail on this one. :)

Jason, you know we blog for other reasons....
Scoble is a phenomenon. Even though he is more on the consumer side more than enterprise, he is giving bloggers a huge shot in the arm. Happy to be part of that history!
