People laughed at Maggie Thatcher when she used "we are" as she announced the birth of her grandchild.
But look at us now. I am amazed at the explosion in identities:
a) BusinessWeek has a cover story on virutal lives - our avatars and Paladins
b) Bloggers with multiple noms de plume
c) The identity theft ecosystem
d) This touching NY Times article on messages to recently passed away
e) The number of people who know me, my email, my phone number but insist on dealing with my Linked-In identity
Darn, if we ever needed Prozac and other drugs for multiple personalities it is now. In the meantime, let's accept that the Queen knows something when she uses the "Royal We" - Pluralis majestatis.

We guffawed at Maggie T because she used the term as in 'the regal we.' A terribly British anachronism that refers to the joining of the monarch to the state. But I guess you already know that. :)
